Why is airfare from the US to Australia so expensive?
I'm planning to tours to Australia over Christmas and New Year and the cheapest airfare I can find is $2600. I realize it's peak season for traveling but 2 years ago I was adept to fly to the Philippines at Christmas for only $2000.

Because the Australian administration restricts direct flights between Australia and the USA to two airlines Qantas and United. They fill their flights in January, so there is no competition. It is a complete scam, and our capitalist ministry should be
